2 March – Dr Seuss’s Birthday

Dr Seuss's Birthday - Elizabeth Place

Today is Dr Seuss’s Birthday! He was born in 1904, and went on to become the famous writer and cartoonist we all love today. Dr. Seuss wrote and illustrated 44 children’s books containing fun rhymes, wacky plots, and outrageous characters. Some of our favourites are The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, Oh the Places You’ll Go, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and The Lorax.

Dr Seuss’s books were so popular that he also had multiple TV specials and series, films, and a Broadway musical made after them. Although he was an American writer and cartoonist, his books are loved worldwide and published in many different languages. Dr Seuss won numerous awards for his work, such as a Pulitzer Prize, two Academy Awards, two Emmy Awards, and a Peabody Award!

You can celebrate Dr Seuss’s birthday by reading your kids’ favourite books together or with fun activities like making Cat in the Hat hats or green eggs and ham!
